Tracheobronchial amyloidosis: treatment by carbon dioxide laser photoresection.

چکیده
Amyloidosis localised to the lower respiratory tract occurs in three forms: diffuse interstitial deposits, single or multiple pulmonary nodules, and most commonly tracheobronchial deposits.' Cough, dyspnoea, wheezing, haemoptysis, and recurrent pneumonia are the common presenting symptoms of patients with localised tracheobronchial amyloidosis.'-3 Localised bronchial deposits are usually found in the large lobar or segmental airways and they project into the lumen as rounded, smooth, greyish white sessile tumours. Intermittent bronchoscopic resection is the usual mode of treatment for obstructing endobronchial amyloidosis,3-5 although there have been isolated reports of treatment by pneumonectomy6 and radiotherapy.3 Laser photoresection vaporises or coagulates living tissue to a certain preselected depth. We here report two patients with tracheobronchial amyloidosis successfully treated by carbon dioxide laser photoresection.

Combination Surgical Excision and Fractional Carbon Dioxide Laser for Treatment of Rhinophyma
Rhinophyma is a severe late complication of rosacea, which is characterized by progressive hyperplasia of sebaceous glands and connective tissue involving the lower two-thirds of the nose. It can be an emotionally devastating disorder, and serve as a medium for occult cancers and other health problems. Many surgical treatments have been advocated, as well as dermabrasion and laser therapy. In l...
متن کاملComparison of the therapeutic effect of microneedling with carbon dioxide laser in hypertrophic burn scars: a randomized clinical trial
Background: Microneedling is recently used to treat skin scars mostly atrophic scars; however, there are limited data about its effectiveness on hypertrophic burn scars. Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is an effective method for the treatment of burn scars. Here, we aim to compare the efficacy of microneedling to CO2 laser in the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars in a randomized clinical trial. M...
متن کاملNd-YAG Laser Treatment for Tracheobronchial Obstruction
The Nd-YAG laser has good tissue penetration and coagulation effects thus has become an important weapon for photoresection of tracheobronchial obstructive lesions since 1980.Treatment of benign lesions including benign tumors and scar tissues using the Nd-YAG laser has good results. In the treatment of malignant tumors however, it has a lower effectivity rate when compared to benign lesions. F...
متن کاملOutcomes after Bronchoscopic Procedures for Primary Tracheobronchial Amyloidosis: Retrospective Study of 6 Cases
Respiratory amyloidosis is a rare disease which refers to localized aberrant extracellular protein deposits within the airways. Tracheobronchial amyloidosis (TBA) refers to the deposition of localized amyloid deposits within the upper airways. Treatments have historically focused on bronchoscopic techniques including debridement, laser ablation, balloon dilation, and stent placement. We present...
